Brett was called to the NSW Bar in September 2019 and signed the Victorian Bar Roll on 14 December 2021.
Brett appears in both summary and indictable jurisdictions including summary hearings, bail applications, committals, plea hearings and in the Court of Appeal. Since coming to the Bar, he has regularly appeared in jury trials.
Brett was previously employed as a Principal Federal Prosecutor at the Commonwealth DPP, having practiced and specialised in federal criminal prosecutions for over 10 years.
Immediately prior to coming to the Bar, Brett was seconded to the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) where he worked on a matter arising out of the Royal Commission into Misconduct in the Banking, Superannuation and Financial Services Industry.
Brett is a member of the Legal Aid NSW summary and indictable crime panel. He also holds an Indictable Crime Certificate and is on the Victoria Legal Aid Criminal Trial Preferred Barrister List.
