Emma accepts both defence and prosecution briefs.
Emma regularly appears in contested criminal proceedings, including summary contests, committal hearings, plea hearings, conviction appeals, applications under the Crimes (Mental Impairment and Unfitness to be Tried) Act 1997 and applications for bail.
As junior counsel, she has appeared in trials in the County Court, representing both defence and prosecution. Emma has appeared in the Supreme, County, Koori, Children’s and Magistrates’ Courts.
Emma has been selected to participate in the VLA Trial Counsel Development Program for 2024.
Emma came to the bar with ten years' experience as a solicitor, having practiced in both commercial litigation and criminal law. Prior to signing the Bar Roll, Emma was employed as a senior solicitor advocate at the Office of Public Prosecutions, where she worked in the advocacy division and the specialised sexual offences unit. Emma had carriage of and appeared in a wide range of complex criminal matters involving sexual offences, personal and family violence, drugs, property offences and serious driving offences.
Emma previously worked as a solicitor at the ODPP in New South Wales and in private practice in commercial disputes and insolvency.
Emma was associate to the Honourable Justice Hollingworth at the Supreme Court of Victoria. She read with Leighton Gwynn and her senior mentor is Julie Condon KC.
