Stephen practises in public law, commercial law and general civil matters. He also accepts briefs in criminal law and is especially interested in youth crime, quasi-crime, regulatory and disciplinary matters. 


Prior to coming to the bar, Stephen worked at the Supreme Court of Victoria for over five years as a Senior Trial Division Researcher and as an associate to the Hon. Justice Kevin Bell AM and the Hon. Justice Rita Incerti. He also undertook a secondment to the County Court of Victoria working as the Senior Researcher (Civil). 

While at the Supreme Court, Stephen assisted judges across the Commercial Court, Common Law Division and Criminal Division. As a researcher he gained experience in litigation in a wide range of areas and developed particular interest in judicial review, wills, estates and trusts, contractual disputes and defamation. He also gained extensive experience in criminal law, assisting with a number of judge-alone homicide trials.

Stephen has a keen interest in administrative law and constitutional law. He has experience examining and understanding exercises of government power in a wide variety of statutory and factual contexts.


Prior to working in the Courts, Stephen worked at the Commonwealth Attorney-General’s Department in the Office of Constitutional Law, the International Crime Cooperation Central Authority, and the Family Law Branch.


Stephen completed a Juris Doctor at the University of Melbourne, where he graduated in the top 5% of his cohort and received the Ashurst Award for Trusts.


Stephen is reading with Myles Tehan and his senior mentor is Ben Ihle KC.
